Chapter 6 - Nerve Tissue

The nervous system is specialized for communication of information from one region of the body to another. The fundamental unit of the nervous system is the neuron. However, Non-neural cells provide support and protection in the central nervous system (oligodendrocytes, astrocytes, ependymal cells and microglia) and the peripheral nervous system (Schwann cells and satellite cells).

Peripheral Nerve

A peripheral nerve contains one or more nerve fibers.

Neuromuscular Junction
